Get Helpful Info about Computer upgrade

A lot of people that I go and work on computers for ask me this question all the time. Should I upgrade. They have a computer that they have had for years. Most of them have had them for about 5 years on average. Well, it really depends. Most of these users don’t need to upgrade.

They think because it is not the newest and greatest thing then they need a new computer or upgrade the one they have to the max. My opinion is is that if you do not intend to play high resolution games, or run the newest microsoft OS which is Vista, then probably the answer to that is no. Reason being, if you run XP then your already fine. Your machine already has the amount of memory, processor speed, and hard drive space that XP was designed for.

Unless you upgraded from an earlier version of windows. Even then, if you have at least 256 megs of memory and a 1.5 Ghz processor, you really should be fine. That is unless you do want to run those high end apps. Most people just want to surf the net and watch a few videos now and again. Some people just want the newest and greatest thing. I have a machine that I built 6 years ago. Now when I built it, I paid a lot for the parts and it was ahead of its time.

Now its way behind but, I am running Vista and it runs it quite well. My current configuration is a Intel P4 2.8 Ghz processor, 1024 Ram, 40 gig HD, 256 Nvidia geforce 7800 GS, and a dvd burner. Now I know my video card is farely recent in terms of how old my machine is. I had to buy a new card being that my old 9800 pro died on me. Still I didn’t pay but 150 for the card. This is a lot better than the 300 I paid before. My point is is that I plan on using this machine until it completely craps out on me. It does what I want it to and that’s all that matters to me. If you are considering an upgrade or a brand new purchase, just think about what you are going to be using it for.

It doesn’t take much for word processing, online banking, and regular web surfing. So, if this is all your machine is going to be doing and you are doing it fine with the one that you got. Then you are probably going to be wasting your money. Computers are evolving at such a fast pace nowadays that when you do buy a computer, it is obsolete almost as soon as you get it home.

I wouldn’t worry about trying to keep up with the Jones’ so to speak when it does come to computers for this reason. You never no matter how much you spend will have the most top of the line computer because things do evolve so quickly. Sorry for the grammatical errors and hope this helps some of you out. Thanks for reading. God Bless.
